ENGL 2200-Introduction to Literature

Fulfills General Education Literature & Humanities requirement.
Fulfills high school Language Arts 11 or Language Arts 12
Prerequisites: 
Course Description: For all students who would like to increase their enjoyment of literature. Provides basic understanding of novels, short stories, poems, plays, and essays. Students will learn to read analytically and write critically. Course offered in rotation, check class schedule. **COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES (CLOs) At the successful conclusion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Analyze, orally and/or in written form, literary concepts including setting, characterization, theme, point of view, figurative language, and plot. 2. Examine ethical values and critically discuss philosophical concerns in literature. 3. Create both formal critical essays and informal responses to concerns expressed in course texts. 4. Apply the techniques of effective collaboration through successful completion of various group activities.

Prerequisites: 
Course Description: For students in all disciplines with an interest in exploring the interrelationship of art, literature, music, philosophy, architecture, sculpture, and other art forms. Enhances appreciation and understanding of all forms of creative human expression. Includes readings, films, group discussions, lectures, and written responses to the humanities through papers and exams. Successful students will demonstrate skill on exams and in discussing, reading and writing about the humanities. Identify the characteristics of a variety of Western cultures and value systems in foundational texts and creative expressions. 2. Effectively describe the historical development of central themes in the humanities. 3. Formulate relationships between art works in different genres, time periods and cultural contexts. 4. Analyze artworks in an academic manner, in both verbal and written form.
